Developed by Wilhelm Reich, Psychodynamic Therapy, is a method for character transformation that recognizes the essential identity of the mind and body. Also known as Orgonomic bio-psychotherapy and Orgone Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy recognizes how "armoring" against the free flow of life energy blocks full emotional expression. The Psychodynamic therapist works with the principles of psychodynamic psychotherapy to reveal to the patient\client their character attitudes and their character armoring.
Our Psychodynamic Training includes education in the principles of character development, the treatment of chronic personality disorders and stress reduction through mind-body emotional and biophysical release. Training in Psychodynamic character analysis focuses on the identification of areas of muscular armoring and their treatment through deep massage, breath work and facilitation of natural respiration.
Three and five-day Transformational Workshops held in the SF Bay area and the Esalen Institute, respectively. "Transformation through Orgonomic Bio-psychotherapy" the workshops include character analysis and biophysical work on muscular armoring and blocked respiration. Techniques to reduce stress through Psychodynamic massage, breath work and the use of creative and expressive arts to reveal inner conflict and strivings are presented in the context of a dynamic group process.
The Psychodynamic Therapist helps us develop an understanding of our chronic defensive structure through a verbal dialogue. Like traditional analysis, Psychodynamic Therapy includes a relationship building verbal exchange between the client and therapist. But in addition, Psychodynamic Therapy includes body work to address the physical, somatic component - the physical expression of the mind's defenses. Dr. Patricia R. Frisch, Ph.D. and Dr. Richard A. Blasband, M.D. have a combined clinical experience of over fifty years in the use of these mind and body Psychodynamic techniques.
"The body has assumed greater importance theoretically and practically in the understanding of the individual as a unity and in the conduct of therapy..."
WORKING WITH THE BODY IN PSYCHOTHERAPY
from a Psychodynamic Viewpoint
"The discovery of muscular armoring in the body by Wilhelm Reich came directly out of his explorations into the character structure of his patients..."
